The top four (4) winners will also receive design software from Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Manga Studio and Anime Studio) as well as art supplies from Sakura of America, maker of the high-end “Pigma” pens line (prefect for drawing manga)!

How to enter:

1. Download the official rules and complete the Nichi Bei Weekly contest entry form. CLICK HERE, to download the application form. No purchase or entry fee required. No age limit. However, contestants under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian sign the official entry form.

2. Create an original manga illustration.

3. E-mail your manga illustration to contest@nichibeiweekly.org or mail it directly to:

Official Rules:

1. Entries must be the original creation of the artist. No duplications of copyrighted characters will be accepted. Manga characters cannot be duplications of existing copyrighted characters. By submitting your art work to this contest you affirm and agree that the submission is entirely and without condition your own creation, does not contain any material which which may infringe on any intellectual property rights or other rights of third parties, or if it does, proper authorization and/or license have been obtained from the creator, distribution company, or owner of such rights. Nichi Bei Weekly/Nichi Bei Foundation their subsidiaries and affiliates, their officers, directors, agents, insurers, employees, and volunteers, assume no responsibility or liability whatsoever for damages, loss or injury resulting from participation in the contest or acceptance or use of any prize. Entry must meet all size and format requirements specified.

2. Images must be sent in as high-resolution (minimum 300 ppi) electronic format. Image must be in the size requirement of 8″ x 9-1/2″ (8″ width x 9.5″ height). Images are accepted via e-mail in any of the following formats: .pdf, .eps, .tiff or may be mailed to

3. Only one entry per person.

4. Each entry must include full name and place of residence (City, State, Country), phone number, and e-mail address. The contestant’s name and city will be displayed along with the art.

5. Eligible entries will be judged and winners will be selected by panel of judges, composed of Nichi Bei Weekly’s chosen editors, sponsors, industry professionals and other employees. Judging criteria include: originality, character design, artistic style, design, and layout, technical skills.

6. Entries must be received by THURSDAY, July 8, 2010, NOON (PDT).

All entries become the property of Nichi Bei Weekly. By entering the competition, you grant Nichi Bei Weekly the unlimited but non-exclusive right to publish, use, adapt, edit, and/or modify your entry
in any way without limitation and without compensation.
